Rob adamson demo - january 2017
Artist/Teacher Robert Adamson did a demonstration for the Midway Art Association on Tuesday, January 17 in the Midway Community Center.
Rob started the demonstration with information about how well known Portraitists "thought about Portraiture." He then talked about how thinking and planning are used in creating really good portraiture. Rob emphasized the importance of knowing how to take accurate measurements and how to get them properly placed in a painting surface. He demonstrated this on his demonstration panel and noted how important it is to take care of this preliminary work rather than jumping ahead to the "fun" part before the fundamentals are solidly in place. He helped us to see how the face can be simplified into a series of identifiable planes. Suddenly an image started to appear. Rob was talking us through every stroke on the panel. He accomplished this, along with answering many questions, in approximately an hour and a half.
Rob explained that now that the hard part was done' he will finish it up and send us a photograph of the finished product.
The various steps in his demonstrations are very impressive as you can see by the pictures.
Rob put in some touches of color in the last painting as a reference that he will use as he finishes up this painting of Sally. A special thanks to Sally for "sitting" for Rob.
We will be showing you a "before and after" when Rob has finished this painting. It was a great evening and we look forward to seeing you next month!
